Usually, by offering school visits, the EAS conference allows participants to gain an insight into the music lessons of the host country. During the last years, these school visits took place on the first day of the conference, before the opening ceremony. Even if we can not meet you personally this year in Freiburg’s music classrooms, we would still like to give you a glimpse of what music teaching is like in our country – especially during these exceptional Covid-19 times – and discuss it with you. Since Covid is still affecting our schools in their daily work, we cannot offer live-streamed online lessons as originally planned. Therefore, we have chosen another setting:
1. We will start with a short introduction including general information about Music as a subject in schools in Germany.
2. We will then get short presentations of different answers to the specific music teaching demands during Covid-19 times from music teachers, students from the Freiburg University of Music and teacher educators.
3. These presentations will be followed by interviews with the presenters and an open discussion about tasks, goals and opportunities of homeschooling music lessons. This discussion will include national and international perspectives on that topic.
We look forward to welcoming you to our “school visits” and exchanging experiences, knowledge and creative solutions!
