Music in Schools (ES)

After the new bill for general education (LOMCE, 2013), music was removed from the compulsory curriculum in Spain. The current political situation in Spain after the last general elections is quite complicated. A reform of the curriculum after the constitution of the new government in this country is expected.

Signed by the EAS board members, by all the EAS National Coordinators across Europe and by the current president of ISME, the «Granada Declaration 2015 for lively music education in schools and high level training of music teachers in Spain and Europe» (see below) was sent to the Spanish Minister for Education, Culture and Sports. No answer was given, to date. So, both music and music teacher training continue in a precarious situation all over the country.
