Dublin 2024 practical information

Fáilte go TU Dublin Conservatoire!

The 31st EAS Conference, “Traditions in Transformation”, will take place 12-15 June at TU Dublin Conservatoire. Formerly DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama, the Conservatoire was founded in 1890 as the Dublin Municipal School of Music, with around 50 students. We have grown from being a municipal institution to one that is truly national and international. Now, we provide the highest quality education across the broadest range of performing arts disciplines in Ireland, to more than 1200 students.

TU Dublin Conservatoire is located in the East Quad of the Grangegorman campus. The address is as follows:

To help you prepare for your visit to Dublin, we have provided guidance below on transport and things to do in the city.

Transport

Delegates planning on travelling around the city by bus or on the Luas may wish to purchase a Leap Card for convenience and to save money. It is worth noting that buses will only accept Leap Cards or exact change (€2.60 single). Tickets for Luas services can be purchased at ticket machines at Luas stops around the city.

Dublin Airport

The easiest way of travelling from/to Dublin Airport is via the Dublin Express bus, which can be booked online in advance. The Dublin Express is well signposted at the airport and stops are located throughout the city; the Stop Map should help you to locate the stop nearest to your accommodation. For delegates staying near Smithfield and the Grangegorman Campus, we recommend that you alight at Usher’s Quay on the south side of the River Liffey and cross to the north side.

Bus (Leap Card: Tap on only)

TU Dublin Grangegorman is easily accessible by bus. Dublin Bus routes serving the campus include:

Check www.dublinbus.ie for up to date timetable information. Delegates may wish to try the Transport for Ireland journey planner to find their best bus route to campus.

Luas (Leap Card: Tap on and off)

TU Dublin Conservatoire is well served by the Luas, Dublin’s tram system. There are two tram lines — red and green — and both can be used to travel to the Conservatoire. The Luas map can be found here.

  • Green line: Broadstone – University is the nearest stop and is approximately a 5-minute walk
  • Red line: Smithfield is the nearest stop and is approximately a 13-minute walk.

City Sights

There is plenty to see and do in Dublin, as you’ll gather from the lists of popular attractions in the city. VisitDublin is a great place to start if you’re looking for ideas about how to spend your free time and the food and drink map provides an overview of popular places to get a bite to eat.

Smithfield is only a short walk from TU Dublin Conservatoire and offers a range of eateries, cafes, and even a cinema. From there, delegates are only a short walk from the National Museum of Ireland (Decorative Arts and History), Phoenix Park and Dublin Zoo, and the Northside’s main shopping area, Henry Street. Crossing the River Liffey to the Southside will bring delegates within easy reach of attractions such as Christ Church Cathedral, St Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin Castle, and the Chester Beatty Library.
