Born in 1970 in Bremen, he studied music and mathematics in Berlin and worked as a gymnasium teacher for Music and Mathematics from 2009 to 2015. Afterwards, he worked as an assistant researcher at the University of the Arts Berlin and in 2015 received his doctoral degree for a dissertation on models of interdisciplinarity in music teaching. After visiting and deputy professorships in Koblenz, Berlin, and Dresden, he worked for two years as a regular professor for music education at the Anton Bruckner Privatuniversität Oberösterreich in Linz (Austria).

Since 2023, Alexis Kivi has been a Professor for Music Education at the Hochschule für Musik Würzburg (Germany) and is involved in music teacher programs for all school types, together with Prof. Dr Gerhard Sammer. The focus of his teaching and research includes interdisciplinarity in the arts and international student exchanges. He regularly collaborates on student projects with partners in Turkey, Spain, and Greece. He is a founding member of the German Music Teachers’ Association (BMU) and is affiliated with many other music education associations throughout Germany. Since 2012, he has been participating in the EAS conferences with regular presentations. He is a member of the Grants Working Group, which aims to increase the inclusivity and diversity of EAS conferences and was established on his initiative.
