Music in Schools

Compulsory education in Slovakia lasts nine years (children aged from 6 to 15 years) and is divided into two stages. The first stage consists of ISCED 1 – four grades from 1st to 4th (children aged from 6 to 10 years) with time subsidy of 1 class per week (45 minutes) of school subject entitled Music. At the second stage, ISCED 2, grades from 5 to 9 (children aged from 11 to 15 years), the time subsidy for Music within compulsory subjects is 1 class per week (45 minutes) while in the 9th grade there is only the subject Arts education.  Read more…

Music Teacher Training

Music teacher education for comprehensive schools in Slovakia runs from the year 2005, within the context of the Bologna Declaration. Also other legislative changes as a new school reform from 2008 with the new Education Act and other act concerning continuous education of teachers determines the current events connected with universities and their affairs.
