EAS: Newsflash 15.11.2020

Next year’s EAS Online Conference will be hosted by the beautiful city of Freiburg im Breisgau in Germany March 24-27, 2021. The conference theme is “Music is what people do”.

As the Corona situation is still very severe in many countries in Europe, the conference team, together with the EAS board, have decided to move to a full online format for the Freiburg conference. This is sad because we would have loved to welcome you all to our beautiful city, However, it opens up new possibilities, too: Now we all have certainty in terms of planning and preparing the event, as well as the contributions and participation.

In addition to that our event:

  • will be ‘greener’,
  • will provide better accessibility for people from all over the world,
  • will be enriched by a new Call for Contributions for Digital Concert and Music Practice Formats “Music is What People do 2020” and
  • will still provide all benefits of a live venue: keynotes, paper and poster presentations, exciting live (stream) concerts, symposia, workshops, open space discussions, (virtual) informal meeting places and much more!

Some more updates on the event: We are very pleased to announce our keynote speakers: Prof. Dr. Emily Akuno (Kenya), Prof. Dr. Evert Bisschop-Boele (The Netherlands), Prof. Dr. Bettina Fritzsche (Germany). More information including their biographies and fields of research are on our website.

  • We have launched an additional Call for Contributions for Digital Concert and Music Practice Formats “Music is What People do 2020”. The EAS Conference in Freiburg is designed to bring together current achievements in music education. In times of new challenges, this also means presenting inspirational examples of what people do music-wise in this special year 2020.For in 2020, still, music is what people do! So what do they do in a situation where face-to-face interaction is not be possible? What kinds of musical interactions do take place and what inspirations arise? To inspire and connect a multitude of sounding best practice examples, we include a digital concert format in the conference. We would like to feature music as something that people do – even if they cannot do it the “usual” way.Present your project to the EAS-public and inspire other creatives throughout Europe! We encourage all musicians, students and teachers to submit their way of “doing music” these days in the form of a short film, music track or video clip. This must reach us by  15th December 2020. We invite contributions presenting analogue & digital music-making, as well as face-to-face settings under corona-conditions – in synchronous as well as asynchronous formats. All accepted contributions will be presented in a digital concert format during the conference. For more information check out our website!
  • Registration will open on December 1st. You can find more information on conference fees and registration deadlines on the website. We know we are late, but the shift to the online format forced us to re-organise our budget as a whole from scratch… Good news: The online event will be cheaper for participants!
  • We received a great number of submissions and are in the middle of a very exciting review process. We are looking forward to compiling a high quality and multifaceted program!
